About Us

Caring Callers has been in operation for approximately 29 years.  The program serves older adults throughout San Luis Obispo County and remains the only successful program of its kind. Caring Callers provides in-home visiting services to senior citizens, aged 60 or over, who are frail, homebound and at risk. Services are delivered at no cost to the client for as long as the client needs the service.

The increasing number of older adults who reside alone and are at-risk for substance abuse, elder abuse, scams, fraud, suicide, depression and lowered self-esteem is evidence of the importance of our mission. Often a Caring Caller is the only source of social contact for a homebound senior, adding meaning to their lives and postponing or eliminating the need for institutionalization. Currently there are more than 160 volunteers working with the Caring Callers program!

Caring Callers collaborates with several County departments and programs serving older adults.  Those departments and programs include: Mental Health Services; Public Health; Public Guardian; Adult Protective Services; In-Home Supportive Services; and Senior Home Care.
